The different national and inter-regional plans launched over the past few years for speeding up the development of solar energy in Euro-Mediterranean countries, and especially in North Africa and the Middle East, were a first essential step for bringing about the changes we are witnessing in the energy landscape. Above all, they identified the increasingly obvious reasons for these mutations and set out the medium and long-term objectives, as well as the broadlines of policies to be implemented for achieving them, in the different fields of regulation, funding, technological progress, and the inescapable need for cooperation between the countries concerned.
This first step, in which governments and some very large corporations very naturally took the initiative, inevitably gave rise to another and no less important stage, namely the rapprochement and coordination of efforts between numerous companies and organizations which, in one guise or another, are involved in the implementation of concrete schemes: project promoters, industrial companies, materials manufacturers, research firms, banks and funding agencies, etc.
It was specifically to create a forum for debate and exchange between these companies and organizations that the first edition of SolarMed was held in Paris in September 2010. It was the first event of its kind since the launch of the MSP and succeeded in bringing together for the first time senior executives not only from the MSP, Desertec and Transgreen but also from national agencies, professional associations and private-sector companies in Europe, in North Africa and in the Middle East.
Following the excellent results obtained in 2010, the 2011 edition of the SolarMed conference and exhibition will be the second annual gathering of the main players involved in the development of solar energy in this region of the world: the MSP, Desertec, Transgreen, national programs and private operators.
Les différents plans interrégionaux et nationaux lancés ces toutes dernières années pour dynamiser le développement de l’énergie solaire dans les pays euro-méditerranéens, surtout en Afrique du Nord et au Moyen-Orient, ont été une première étape indispensable pour opérer les mutations énergétiques que nous visons. Ils ont surtout diagnostiqué les raisons de plus en plus évidentes de ces mutations et défini les objectifs à moyen et long terme, ainsi que les principaux moyens d’action à mettre en œuvre pour y parvenir dans les différents domaines de la régulation, du financement, du progrès technologique et de la coopération incontournable entre les pays concernés.
Cette première étape, dont les pouvoirs publics et quelques très grandes entreprises ont tout naturellement pris l’initiative, débouche inévitablement sur une autre non moins importante, à savoir le rapprochement et la coordination des efforts entre les multiples entreprises et organismes impliqués dans la réalisation de projets concrets : porteurs de projets, opérateurs industriels, fabricants de matériel, bureaux d’études, bailleurs de fonds, etc…
C’est précisément pour ouvrir un espace de débat et d’échange entre ces entreprises et organismes que la première édition de SolarMed a été tenue à Paris en septembre 2010. Première manifestation du genre depuis le lancement du PSM, SolarMed a pu réunir, pour la première fois, de hauts responsables aussi bien du PSM, de Desertec et de Transgreen, que des programmes nationaux et des associations professionnelles et des entreprises privées de la quasi-totalité des pays concernés.
Après les excellents résultats de 2010, la conférence/exposition SolarMed sera en 2011 le deuxième rendez-vous annuel entre les principaux acteurs concernés par le développement de l’énergie solaire dans cette région du monde : PSM, Desertec, Transgreen, programmes nationaux et opérateurs privés.
